Mitsubishi Motors Corp. launched a new sedan, Galant Fortis, in the Japanese market Aug. 23, 2007.

The Super Exceed and Super Exceed Navi Package trim levels are slated for release in late October. Galant Fortis is the first new sedan introduced in Japan by the Mitsubishi in the last seven years. The car comes in 2WD and 4WD versions. The prices range from 1,785,000 yen to 2,436,000 yen (including consumption tax).

Galant Fortis achieved a larger living space by the provision of wider and taller body without stretching the overall length. This new sedan ensures the stable driving condition with its wide track while allowing superb maneuverability that stems from a minimum turning radius of 5 m.

The powertrain uses a 2-liter DOHC aluminum block engine that achieved the emission level 75% below that specified by Japan's 2005 Emissions Standards, mated to a 6-speed manual CVT. As a result, the car delivers excellent dynamic and environmental performances at the same time.

According to Mitsubishi, driving and safety performances are enhanced by the adoption of a high-rigidity platform with a high impact safety performance and revamped suspension.

In addition to the SRS airbags, the adaptive front lighting system (AFS) and rain-sensitive auto wipers are provided in consideration of impact and passive safety performances. SRS is composed of driver and front passenger airbags, driver knee airbag, and side and curtain airbags. AFS is a system to improve driver's field of vision at night.
